Poor Patients Fund of the St. Francis Hospital

Sustain for Life financed a comprehensive health service for 24 Batwa Pygmy communities in Kisoro District in southwestern Uganda from 2010 to 2017. The aim of this project was to provide health care, preventive medicine and education to some of the world's most vulnerable communities. The health service was set up in collaboration with St Francis Hospital in Mutolere. Sustain for Life withdrew from the project in 2017 to devote itself to other tasks; the question of how to cover the costs of health care for the Batwa people has remained unresolved ever since.

As a hospital under church sponsorship, St. Francis Hospital sees itself obliged to help the Batwas as well as other poor people from the immediate vicinity and those seeking help from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda in health emergencies, even if the people affected cannot pay the costs of their hospital stay or the prescribed medication. The sum of unpaid bills has been rising steadily since 2017 and represents a major burden on the hospital's budget. To stop treating the Batwa and other needy people in the region is not an option for the hospital managers.
In order to stem the funding gap and to get more room for urgently needed purchases, the hospital asks for support through donations.
If you are interested in supporting the St. Francis Hospital in this matter, please mention the keyword Poor Patients in the intended purpose of your donation. We will then forward your donation to the hospital accordingly.
